April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month!!!

Thus far, my sorors and I have been working hard to spread the word, from our “Teal Tuesdays” (teal is the official color for the commemorative month), to sharing statistics and facts with the student body, to our whiteboard campaign. It was great to see my peers willingly join in and express themselves, as we worked to raise awareness about SAAM. :)

This is just a few of the MANY photos we have taken, posted, and shared…and from what I’ve been informed, our movement has been picked up by the Deltas and our sorors at Bethune-Cookman University, as well.

Each self portrait is drawn under the influence of different drugs taken daily. Within weeks of this experiment he became lethargic and suffered mild brain damage. He continues to work on this series but with much more time between doses.

what you fail to realize is that video games shouldn’t cater to females in the first place. It’s largely known that it’s targeted towards the MALE demographic and has been for so many years, so why would they ask for something like that to be handed to them on a goddamn silver platter?

that’s like a guy walking into the women’s department of clothing at a sears and demanding that there be more clothing for men there. Separation of sections be damned.

the game industry is more like walking into a regular department store and seeing that all the clothes are only men’s clothes

and when you ask the cashier where the women’s clothing section is, they wheel out a small rack of cheaply made tutus, g-strings, and high heels all in bright pink

and then when you go “wow really that’s it” you get called an uppity bitch and everybody assumes you want all the focus on you when in reality you’d just like to be considered a worthwhile demographic since you also like to wear clothes, it’s not like you want some ridiculous getup, you just want a solid shirt and pair of pants that fits you alright.

I mean hell you even sort of like men’s clothes and you have no problem wearing them. They suit you well. But it’s very obvious once you throw on a pair of men’s pants that they were not made for you.

The amount of misogyny in gaming circles is at a ridiculous proportion nowadays. And I mean misogyny: it is outright hatred toward women.

Anything that combats that is a good thing. Also: I have trouble in relationships when women don’t or won’t play video games.

People should stop treating games like they’re some sort of secret club, and start treating them like the art/medium forms they are. No one argued that women weren’t allowed to read books or watch movies, why act like they can’t play games, or have games that ‘cater’ to them?

Though real talk here: most things that companies write for women suck really hard. It’s not the fault of women in general, but because companies think we’re stupid and fine with twilight, imagine baby sitter, and 39210740974349017 bad romantic comedies a year. I’m more fed up with the corporate notion seems to be ‘female audience = no substance what so ever’. Like… stop it media companies. Just stop.

It’s blowing my mind how someone can compare a women’s clothes shop to an entire medium of storytelling, what.

Ok so why aren’t women allowed in? And what exactly is ‘catering to women’ anyway?

I’m going to take a guess and say they probably feel like their habit of warping women into these twisted soulless dolls might be at stake. Oh man, you might have to treat female characters like… characters. Shit, actual women, I want a blow-up doll that I can control with my hands. Sorry we’re calling you out on your bullshit boys, I didn’t realise that writing about and designing characters that feel like they are plausible real world people was catering towards women. It’s unhealthy, it’s training yourself to be attracted to this diluted ridiculous thing that gets tangled up and projected over what you expect from the real world. How dare these ugly harpies from reality that could never compare to my perfect polygons (because I can’t control them) get in the way of my ability to play with my little delicate sock puppets? How dare they ask for respect! The sex dolls on my screen bend over backwards for me and they don’t require respect, so why do these… real girls?

I mean what else can they worried about us changing in the industry?

I love this routine, because it’s not a rape joke. It’s a rape culture joke. It’s not making fun of the people who have been raped, but of both rape culture (not being able to just jog because it’s not safe) but of the idea that the only thing of value in a woman is her vagina.

Why are people hating on Sheryl Underwood?! She’s the boldest of them all! The same folks who are right there with the rest of us upset how black women’s hair often isn’t considered “professional” or “acceptable” by white America, how we have to hide it, straighten it, do whatever it to it to conform are THE SAME PPL now saying “NOOOOOO SHERYL! Sheryl’s the only one showing her real hair in full, her short, salt-and-pepper, messy, beautiful hair and look at her face! SO FREE! Her entire says gesture says, “This is me. Enjoy.”

I didn’t watch the segment, but this entire gifset is great, ESPECIALLY Sheryl Underwood. And as for the black folks feeling embarrassed or laughing bc of what Sheryl decided to do, you need to re-assess your life and realize how much you’re probably contributing to the problem when you react like this. I can’t with that BS. You’re either down or you’re not.

I didnt know people were actually mad at her. I thought the same thing at those other women. Idk about Aisha but The two in the first gif got a head full of tracks, please do not think they took out the only one they were wearing. SHeryl’s hair actually looks really good for having been under a wig. I love her eyes and smile, she just radiates from within. She was the most honest and hers was the most powerful act in my opinion. Black women reclaiming their bodies and spaces as they see fit (wig or no wig), being unafraid to be present, not caring what you think in the action they chose to take and reclaiming agency….is so revolutionary and powerful. How could hate her for this?
